Local Service Learning Project: Children's Day Interactive party for Children from Beyond Social Services

The Local Service Learning Project “Children’s Day Interactive party for Children from Beyond Social Services” was conducted successfully last Saturday, 29 Sep. The theme of the party is “Innovative Science that touches your life”. Special thanks to Ms Teresa, Ms Raja and Ms Eva from Beyond Social Services (BSS) who gave us the opportunity to participate in this meaningful event. A total of 15 student leaders/volunteers from the DMNT Year 3 cohort have actively planed and participated in the project. These students have volunteered their time and commitment from the start of the proposal and are involved in the planning, ground recce, logistics preparation and rehearsals for the actual event.

The scope of the project includes visiting the children at the children’s home, with our DMNT Year 3 students hosting a Children’s Day Celebration for the children of Beyond Social Services (BSS). The visit covered interactive sessions between our students and the children, which consisted of interactive games, healthy competitions and hands-on activities for the children. The children from BSS especially loved the hands on activities, and at the end of the event, fostered such a bond with our students that they do not bear to see us leave. Similarly, our students felt this is a rare exposure opportunity and many took back with them much more than they expected. It is heartening to know that many expressed their wish to do the event again, even after graduation.
