SEG DBME and DDEE Students Final Year Project Showcased at International Technology Exhibition, TRONSHOW2012, Japan

In December 2011, eight final year students from the Diploma in Biomedical Electronics (DBME), Diploma in Digital Entertainment Electronics (DDEE) and 1 staff from Republic Polytechnic’s School of Engineering (SEG) showcased their FYPs at the highly anticipated 28th TRON Project Symposium, TRONSHOW2012 held in Tokyo, Japan.
TRONSHOW is an annual symposium initiated by the T-Engine Forum chaired by Professor Ken Sakamura who is the Director at Institute of Infrastructure Application of Ubiquitous Computing (IAUC), Interfaculty Initiative in Information Studies, The University of Tokyo.  In line with the mission of the TRON (The Real-time Operating system Nucleus) project that was started in 1984, TRONSHOW gather people from all over the world in order to introduce the cutting-edge ubiquitous computing technology to visitors of the symposium and to let them think about the future of society, institutions and legal systems that will take advantage of the emerging new applications of ubiquitous computing.  TRON-based OS is integrated in more than 50% of embedded systems and have maintained over 50% share in the market for 13 consecutive years.
Theme for this year’s TRONSHOW 2012 is “The Future Powered by TRON” which introduces T-Kernel 2.0 extension, the latest real-time operating systems for embedded devices development.  One of the major focus at the exhibition this year is the use of ubiquitous technology for disaster recovery.
TRONSHOW 2012 saw many overseas delegates and exhibitors from the European Union, United States of America, China, Vietnam, Malaysia showcasing many interesting projects and exhibits.  Some of the more prominent companies present are Fujitsu Group, Hitachi ULSI Systems Co. Ltd, Renesas Electronics Corp, Ubicom Finland, Freescale Semiconductor Japan Ltd and many more.  Participants from academic institutions include Japan Electronics College, Syonan Institute of Technology, Ryukoku University, The University of Tokyo, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Nanyang Technological University among others.
Republic Polytechnic is honoured to be invited to the TRONSHOW 2012 symposium.  This year the team from RP comprises Final Year Project students from DBME and DDEE showcasing their projects namely T-Engine based Health Monitoring System and T-Engine based Musical Instruments.  The students’ works were very well-received during the event with many of the exhibition visitors and participants dropping by our booth to try out the exhibits and provided many encouraging comments.  The students also had the opportunity to have some exchange with undergraduates and postgraduates students from The University of Tokyo who were present at the exhibition.
All in all, the students had a wonderful experience and certainly had lots of fun throughout the trip.
