LSCMS IG: Student helpers for Singapore Manufacturing Federation

As part of SEG’s close relationship with Singapore Manufacturing Federation (SMF – formerly known as Singapore Manufacturers’ Federation SMa), and the opportunity for a more holistic education as a student in RP, the Logistics & Supply Chain Management Society Interest Group (LSCMS IG) had tied up with SMF to support 2 of their events in a hectic week.

On 30 Oct, SMF launched their 6th Centre of Excellence, the Singapore Innovation and Productivity Institute (SiPi) during their annual Singapore Innovation & Productivity Conference, which was graced by Senior Minister of State for Trade & Industry and National Development, Mr Lee Yi Shyuan, at Marina Bay Sands. Our students had rushed down to MBS to help SMF prepare all the goodie bags the day before the event and had to arrive at the venue very early on the day itself to assist in registration, ushering and providing logistical support to make the event successful.

On 9 Nov, SMF jointly organized the annual MAXA Manufacturing Excellence Community Event with EDB at SMU, which brought in speakers such as Dr James P. Womach, Founder of the Lean Institute. Being a more casual event, students dressed up in casual wear and jeans, but they still had to perform similar roles in registration and ushering. On top of the support they provided, they also had access to attend speeches by professionals with inspiring and applicable insights towards productivity improvement, new processes and techniques used by companies, and a wide breadth of topics on lean tools and data analysis, during their role as helpers for these 2 days.

SMF is very pleased with the support that this group of students has provided and will be preparing certificates of appreciation for their effort, besides the transport allowance that they have given them. We certainly look forward to more of such win-win collaborations for our SEG students.
