SEG DIOM Study Trip to Sydney, Australia

DIOM had successfully organized and conducted a Student Overseas Study trip for a group of 24 DIOM/DSCM students to Sydney, Australia from 7th – 12th September 2012.

The itinerary includes visit to the University of New South Wales, TAFE School of Design, GPC Electronic Manufacturing Pty Ltd who is one of the main contract Manufacturer for Electronic equipment in Australia. Educational visit to Sydney Water Recycling facilities and several Food industries (Sydney Fish Market/Gavana Holstein Dairy Farm for Cold Chain operations & Smart Farm concept; Paddy’s Market for Retails operations) were included for students to gain experience and appreciate the different aspects of these operations.

Through students’ reflection and feedback, they had gained invaluable insights of various operations management issues and challenges from their visits to the above mentioned destinations. They also have the opportunity to interact with students during the visit to the University of New South Wales and Enmore TAFE School of Design. The students left these institutions with great impression and had certainly widened their horizon and global mind-set of how other tertiary students are performing.

This trip is not just work, but fun too. The students got to enjoy some free and easy moment along the famous Bondi Beach, visit the renowned Sydney Opera House & Darling Harbour, the heritage buildings at the Rocks and shopping time at Queen Victoria Building and Cole’s supermarket. Overall, it was an eye-opening and enriching trip as it was the first overseas trip for many students in the group.
