Students from Aeromodelling Interest Group (AIG) won 2nd and 5th position in Indoor Pylon Race during the Inaugural Singapore Aeromodelling Carnival (ISAC) 2012

2 of our students from the Aeromodelling Interest Group (AIG) took part in the Indoor pylon race on 1st September 2012 which was one of the many events held during the Inaugural Singapore Aero-modelling Carnival 2012, organized by Aero-modelling Federation of Singapore. There were 19 registered contestants in the open category, which included students from tertiary institutes and working adults. Despite the on-going UT 3 last week, these 2 students were able to manage both the UTs and their aero-modelling passion to complete their Pylon racers in time for this race.

The race required each contestant to fly their scratch built radio-controlled fixed-wing aircraft for 10 laps within the confined flying space and the goal was to complete the course with minimum penalties and fastest timings. Despite the challenge of flying fast in tight space, Chua Cheng Wei (1st Year DAE student) managed to finish in 2nd place and Goh Zong Yuan (2nd Year DAE Student) in 5th place.  Even at their age, they managed to out-fly many of their seniors in other Polytechnics and working adults, which was a tremendous feat!

The event ended on 2nd September at Woodlands flying field, where the medals and prizes are given out by various VIPs, including Mr Vikram Nair, MP advisor for Sembawang (Admiralty) and Mr Andy Tan, GM of SYFC.
