DSCM

Mar 2012. 24 DSCM students and 2 staffs went on this trip.
Upon
arrival on Hong Kong International Airport, the group immediate made their way
into Shenzhen.
After
a long day of traveling, the students had a sumptuous dinner before heading
back to the hotel to call it a night.
The
next morning, the group went for their first company visit. They visit SF
Express. A local express delivery company that has global presence. SF Express
owns their only trucks, vans and even cargo planes. Shenzhen is one of their
biggest hub in China. This hub links the rest of the world to China. The
students was also give a guided tour to their mullet-million dollar sorting and
packing facility at the air-cargo complex.
After
the visit to SF Express, the students visited Shenzhen High Tech Industry Park.
This Industry Park is government funded and one of its key propose is to
promote research, development and entrepreneurship. This high tech park is also
a Virtual University. Many universities from China, Hong Kong and also some
universities from Australia and UK conduct course in this park.
The
students also visit a contract manufacturing company, Providence Enterprise
Limited. This is a Hong Kong based company with its operation function based in
Shenzhen. Providence provide complete manufacturing solutions to their

in a depot. Student were given a guided tour of the 3 storey bus depot on a
Kowloon double decker bus. The tour included an automatic bus wash, visit to
the service bays and the big bus park at the top floor of the depot. This visit
has made student realise that transport management is not as easy as it seems
in the textbooks. There are many operational matters that needs to be taken
care of.

Saturday morning, the students attended a talk by the President of Hong Kong Logistics
Association, Mr Cheng. Mr Cheng shared the development and challenges faced by
the logistics industry in Hong Kong. He also shared how the development of

insightful and gave the students a deeper understanding of the logistics
industry in Hong and China.
The
last 2 days in Hong Kong, the students visit Singapore Airlines, DHL Global
Forwarding and also Hong Kong University. The General Manager from the
Singapore Airlines shared the challenges faced by them in the air
transportation industry. Students were also very interested to know about the
different cabin configuration that SIA has. During the visit to DHL, students
were briefed on the history and operation of DHL Global Forwarding in Hong
