SEG DCA Study Trip to Hyderabad, India

From 22nd – 29th September 2012, 20 SEG students from the Diploma in Civil Aviation (DCA) visited GMR Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) at Hyderabad, India. The purpose of the trip was to provide the students an experiential learning on how the world class airports are designed, planned and operated.

The GMR Group is one of the leading companies in the aviation industry involved in developing and operating airports with international standards.
It has developed and has been operating four international airports in New Delhi, Istanbul, Malē and Hyderabad.

GMR’s open arm approach helped Republic Polytechnic on the following:
•    GMR planned and coordinated the visit programme covering all the areas relevant to the RP’s aviation curriculum as requested by RP.
•    GMR appointed experts from each area in the passenger airport, cargo terminal, MRO, aviation academy and flight School, who had transferred both technical and operational knowledge and expertise to the students.
•    GMR provided opportunities of meeting senior management to engage with the students and gaining insights of aviation industry in India and abroad where GMR has been progressing in the development of airports and MRO facilities.

Students gained significantly on the following:
•    Students had good first hand learning experience of the facilities, equipment and operational standards at both domestic and international sides of Hyderabad airport.
•    Students had good interactions with experts who operate all the areas of Hyderabad airport such as airport development, airport rescue and fire fighting, air traffic control, fuel farm, terminal operations, airside operations (apron, runway and taxiway), cargo terminal operations, MRO operations, aviation academy and the flight school.
•    Students had valuable learning experience of going through the entire passenger processing from the curb side arrival to departure gates in a real time scenario at Hyderabad airport.
